Idaho and Troy University: where the clinical question stands
For Idaho, Troy University's online nursing disclosure gives no yes and no no: the state is listed as Not yet determined, and the row's last update was December 15, 2020. Idaho's own board is fairly clear about preceptors and faculty, so the open piece is Troy's current position, which its Coordinator of State Authorizations can confirm alongside the Clinical Placements Specialist.

The disclosure answers one narrow question, whether Troy could offer clinical experiences in Idaho as of late 2020, and makes no finding on Idaho licensure. Troy still links it as current, so a quick question to Troy settles more than the table can.

Idaho's board on preceptors, faculty and APRN students
Idaho regulates nurses through a board housed in DOPL, the state's occupational licensing division. A board education policy adopted in April 2024 wants every clinical preceptor, in any type of nursing program, to hold a license equal to or higher than the role the student is training for. It also expects nursing faculty to carry an Idaho RN license, and the faculty who lead APRN role and population courses to carry an Idaho APRN license.
How that faculty expectation lands on Troy's online courses, taught from Alabama, is a question for Troy rather than for you. For an FNP student, the practical upshot is an Idaho preceptor licensed at the NP level or above, which sits comfortably inside Troy's own list for the FNP courses.
Idaho's rules separately allow a student RN, on an Idaho license or a compact privilege, to practice at the APRN level inside a nationally accredited APRN curriculum. Troy's MSN and DNP hold ACEN accreditation.
No clinical-only rule, one contact point
Idaho's statute and its program-approval rules are written for nursing schools operating in Idaho. Neither addresses a distance program that sends a single student to an Idaho practice. What the Board offers instead is a short entry on its website for out-of-state and online programs, pointing schools to its licensing staff for requirements and approval. Because that entry is addressed to schools, it is Troy's Coordinator of State Authorizations who would use it on Troy's behalf.
Full practice, and where Idaho students look
AANP puts Idaho in its full practice group, the category in which state law requires no physician agreement for NP practice. For a Troy FNP student, that makes an NP-owned clinic a realistic primary care site on its own terms.
Idahoans concentrate around Boise and in three smaller metros: Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Coeur d'Alene. The large systems, named here only as landmarks from their own sites, are Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke's in the southwest and Kootenai Health in the north. Troy's work-setting rule keeps your own employer off the list.
Licenses in a compact state
Idaho has been an active Nurse Licensure Compact member since early 2018, which is why most Idaho residents hold a multistate RN license. Troy's manuals speak only of a license for the clinical state and never mention compact privileges, so confirm with your faculty advisor that a multistate license satisfies Troy. Idaho has not joined the APRN Compact, which has five member states and needs seven to start. After graduation you would apply to DOPL for Idaho APRN licensure.
What Troy's table says about Idaho's neighbors
Students in the Panhandle or near the Utah line sometimes ask about crossing over. The 2020 table treats each neighbor differently: Washington and Oregon read Yes, Oregon only after Troy petitions its board; Nevada and Utah match Idaho's Not yet determined; Wyoming shows an application filed in December 2020; and Montana reads No. Any crossing also needs a license valid in that state.

Can Troy University online FNP students do clinicals in Idaho?
Troy's disclosure has listed Idaho as Not yet determined since its 12/15/2020 update, one entry for RN to BSN, MSN and DNP students. That is an open question, not a refusal and not an approval. Troy's state authorization coordinator, working with the placements office, can tell you the current answer before you invest time in recruiting.
Does my Idaho preceptor need to be a nurse practitioner?
Idaho's 2024 policy looks for a preceptor whose license matches or exceeds the role you are studying for. Troy's FNP list names NPs with a year of experience, physicians, nurse midwives and physician assistants. Where the two lists meet is a question your course faculty settle when they review the Preceptor Information Form.
Will a Troy faculty member need an Idaho license?
The 2024 policy expects Idaho licensure from nursing faculty, and Idaho APRN licensure from whoever leads APRN role courses. Whether and how that reaches Troy's online faculty is part of what Troy's Coordinator of State Authorizations weighs, so raise it early if Idaho is your clinical state.
Can I study in Idaho but do clinicals in Washington?
Washington carries a Yes on Troy's 2020 table, with an approval process run through the Clinical Placements Specialist. You would need an RN license Troy accepts for Washington, a faculty sign-off on both preceptor and setting, and signed agreements in place before any hours count.
