When Troy's preceptor forms are due, and what happens if they are late
Troy University's MSN and DNP orientation manuals set different due dates for preceptor forms. The MSN manual treats NSG 6619 one way and every other clinical course another; the DNP manual uses one date for everything. Under the MSN manual, missing the date forces you out of the clinical course and its paired co-requisite.

RN to BSN students send a separate acknowledgement form through Canvas, approved by lead faculty, and the AMSN manual carries its own guidelines, so students in those programs should take the date from their own manual or lead faculty.
Where the two manuals conflict
The conflict bites hardest for post-BSN DNP students. They take the same FNP courses or HINL practicums as MSN students, yet the DNP manual gives them until the last drop day for every form, while the MSN manual gives an MSN student in NSG 6666 or any later clinical course just one month from the first class day. One course, two deadlines, depending on which manual you open.
Troy's documents do not reconcile the two dates. Ask your faculty advisor and course faculty which one applies to your section, keep their answer in writing, and plan to the earlier date until you have it. The School of Nursing has the final word; this page reports what the manuals print.

What "the last day to drop" means
Both manuals tie at least one deadline to Troy's final day for dropping a course with no academic penalty. Troy's 2025-26 Graduate Catalog sets that day at 65 percent of the course length, and a drop by then earns a non-punitive DR. Troy posts the exact date for each semester on its academic calendar, and you drop courses through Student Self-Service.
Sixty-five percent of the way into a semester sounds generous, but the form deadline is not a start date. Faculty still have to approve the preceptor and setting, the agency agreements have to come back signed, and faculty have to clear you before any hour counts (approval and clearance). All of the course's clinical hours must then fit before the semester ends, with none allowed during the break that follows.
What a late form costs you
The MSN manual spells out the penalty: late forms mean you leave the clinical course along with its co-requisite; if you hold off, faculty make that drop for you. Since each didactic course and its paired preceptorship enter Student Self-Service in one submission, they exit as a pair as well.
An incomplete packet is not processed, which makes a form missing its biosketch or license copy a risk even when it arrives on time; our Preceptor Information Form guide lists the three pieces. Each FNP-specific course is offered only once a year, and the four follow a set order, so a dropped preceptorship can hold up the rest of the sequence until the course comes around again. Troy publishes no number of weeks for any of these steps. What matters is the order, and the fact that one of them runs longer than the rest.

When is the Troy preceptor form due for NSG 6619?
Under the MSN manual, by the last drop day of the fall semester in which NSG 6619 runs; DNP students taking the course get the same date under their manual. Troy's academic calendar posts the day. Sending the form that late leaves little of the semester for approval, agreements, clearance and the hours themselves.
Can I get an extension on the preceptor form deadline?
Troy's manuals describe no extension process. Under the MSN manual, a late form costs you the clinical course plus its co-requisite. If you can see the date slipping, speak with your faculty advisor before it passes, with a named preceptor and a packet nearly ready, rather than after.
What does dropping a clinical course do to my Troy record?
A drop by the last day to drop earns a non-punitive DR under the 2025-26 Graduate Catalog, and drops go through Student Self-Service. After that date a grade is assigned, and withdrawing from every course needs Troy's official withdrawal form. The details are in our guide to incompletes, withdrawal and time limits.
If my form is on time, can I start clinical hours?
Not yet. An on-time form only starts the review. Faculty rule on the preceptor and site, a School of Nursing letter goes to the agency, both agreements come back signed, and faculty clear you. Hours completed before that clearance do not count toward the course.
Do HINL and Nursing Education students follow the one-month rule?
Under the MSN manual, yes: only NSG 6619 is tied to the drop day, so the HINL practicums and NSG 6676 fall under the one-month rule for other clinical courses. DNP Nurse Leader students taking the same practicums face the DNP manual's drop-day date instead, which is the conflict to settle with faculty early.
