ViewPoint Screening for Troy nursing clinicals
ViewPoint Screening is where Troy University's School of Nursing collects your clinical compliance record: the background check, a drug screen collected by Quest, your immunization records, the yearly physical and the signed forms. Each item goes in by the published due date and must remain current from registration day to the semester's final day. Troy's MSN web page names different vendors, so confirm with your faculty advisor which instructions apply to you.

What ViewPoint Screening does for Troy
Troy's 2026-27 MSN and DNP Student Orientation Manuals describe ViewPoint Screening as the document management system for clinical requirements. It orders your background check, routes you to Quest for the urine drug collection, and gives you a health portal where immunization records, the annual physical and signed forms are stored. It is the record faculty rely on when they decide whether you are ready to start a preceptorship.
The portal is not only a graduate tool. The BSN Prelicensure and RN to BSN orientation manuals also send clinical requirements to ViewPoint, and those students learn their due dates from Canvas announcements and Troy email. Whatever your program, the ViewPoint package and the yearly check and test that follow are student costs, which our placement costs guide sets in context with the other expenses of a clinical semester.
What goes into your ViewPoint record
Clinical requirements Troy lists for graduate students
- A background check ahead of your first clinical course, repeated yearly, with Troy's signed disclosure of convictions and arrests (screening rules)
- A urine drug screen with a negative result: Quest takes the sample and the result posts to ViewPoint
- Immunity titers (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B), an annual flu shot, Tdap, and a TB result each year on Troy's verification form (immunizations and TB)
- Troy's annual physical exam form, CPR from a course with an in-person skills test, and new health insurance proof each clinical semester (physical, CPR and insurance)
- Yearly OSHA and HIPAA proof plus three signed items covering release of records, device use and the Core Performance Standards (training and forms)
Troy's license rule sits beside these uploads: your RN license has to be unencumbered and good in the state where your clinical site is. DNP students add a clinical specialty certification for post-master's entry and the Verification of Post-Baccalaureate Clinical Hours. Clinical agencies may require more than Troy's list, and the manual is clear that you must meet whatever an agency adds.
The validity window: registration to the last day of the semester
Troy's MSN and DNP program pages require every clinical document to hold good from registration day until the semester closes. A record that is current on the day you upload it but lapses in week ten does not meet that rule. Read each expiration date against the last day of the semester you are registering for, not against the date you happen to be uploading.
The items run on different cycles, which is why students get caught. The background check, drug screen, flu vaccine, TB result, physical and OSHA and HIPAA training are yearly. Health insurance proof goes in again for each semester that includes a clinical course. A CPR card carries its own printed expiration, and a chest x-ray after a positive skin test follows a two-year cycle. Titers are listed once, with no repeat interval stated.
A simple habit helps: before each registration, list every item with its expiration date and mark anything that ends before the semester does. Renew those first.
A card or test that expires mid-semester breaks Troy's validity rule even if it was current when you uploaded it.
Where ViewPoint sits in the preceptorship timeline
Troy's Guidelines for Preceptorship/Internship Courses put compliance first: upload your clinical requirements by the due dates, recruit a preceptor, then submit the Preceptor Information Form to your faculty advisor. The DNP manual goes further: clearance waits until the School of Nursing has the preceptor's signed contract, your current clinical documents and your clinical schedule in hand. A gap in ViewPoint can therefore hold up clearance even after a preceptor has said yes and the agreements are signed.
That matters because Troy counts no clinical hours earned before faculty clearance. A semester has a fixed number of weeks, and each week spent waiting on a missing upload is a week of hours you have to fit in later. The complete sequence, from ViewPoint through recruiting, forms, agreements and scheduling, is set out in Troy's preceptorship process.
Conflict: ViewPoint and Quest, or LabCorp and Certified Background
Troy names two different vendor setups. Its 2026-27 MSN manual states that Quest collects the drug screen, the result reaches Troy through ViewPoint Screening, and ViewPoint also runs the background check. The DNP manual follows the same ViewPoint and Quest arrangement.
The MSN program web page gives a different account. It says the drug test is performed by LabCorp and verified by Certified Background, and that the background check is verified by Certified Background as well. Neither document refers to the other, and Troy does not say which one reflects current practice.
Raise it with your faculty advisor, or with the School of Nursing directly, before ordering or paying for anything. Ask which vendor your program and admission term use, keep the reply in writing, and file it with your compliance records so the answer is on hand if a site or faculty member asks.
How we work around your compliance clock
Troy students choose us because we plan the preceptor search around the dates that actually govern their semester. Recruiting starts while your ViewPoint record is still being completed, so a preceptor and site matched to your course are ready by the time faculty can review them. We also ask each practice early about requirements of its own, which gives you room to meet them before your clearance date.
Every preceptor we bring arrives with a complete Preceptor Information Form packet, biosketch details and license copy included, assembled well before your deadline. When a site has no agreement with Troy yet, you hear it from us on day one, so the contract has time to move. Faculty make the approval decision; our job is to hand them a file with nothing missing.
Questions Troy students ask
Is ViewPoint Screening where Troy students log clinical hours?
No. ViewPoint Screening holds compliance records such as the background check, drug screen, immunizations, physical and signed forms. Troy's public pages name no clinical-hour logging system, so ask your course faculty how hours are documented in your course. In the DNP, the synthesis courses ask for documentation of clinical hours, and the portfolio carries reflection pages about them.
Do BSN and RN to BSN students use ViewPoint too?
Yes. Both the BSN Prelicensure and RN to BSN orientation manuals send clinical requirements to ViewPoint Screening. Due dates reach those students through Canvas announcements and Troy email, so watch both in the weeks before a clinical course. BSN students also need a current CPR card before any practicum course begins.
Who pays for ViewPoint Screening at Troy?
You do. Troy's MSN manual lists the ViewPoint package, then a yearly background check and drug test, as student costs, along with any for-cause screen or retest. Check the current amounts in your program's manual before you order. Our costs page explains what shapes a quote for our own preceptor placement service.
What if a clinical agency asks for something Troy does not list?
Troy's manual says agencies may add requirements and that students must meet them. The agency decides what it adds, so ask the site's contact as soon as your preceptor agrees, complete the extra item, and tell your faculty advisor. Finishing it early keeps it from delaying the date faculty clear you to begin hours.
Can I recruit a preceptor before my ViewPoint record is complete?
Troy's guidelines list compliance as the first step, so ask your faculty advisor how your course treats a search that overlaps with pending uploads. The firm line is clinical time: faculty clear you only after approval, signed agreements and current documents, and any hours logged before clearance do not count toward your course.
