Troy's answer beside Nevada's rules
Two things are true at once. Troy's row, never redated since 2020 though still linked as current, speaks to clinical availability and says nothing about Nevada licensure. And Nevada's side of the ledger adds an approval that only a school can seek. So the opening conversation is with Troy's Coordinator of State Authorizations; the Clinical Placements Specialist comes in once agreements are on the table.

The Nevada rule for programs taught at a distance
Section 632.703 of Nevada's administrative code reaches every nursing program with any slice of its curriculum taking place in Nevada. The school must lodge a report, using a form the Board supplies, with documents showing its accreditation or home approval, a showing that it complies with chapter 632, and a school report each year. For a school teaching online or through another nontraditional format, clinical teaching inside Nevada stays off-limits until the Board says yes, and whoever teaches those clinicals must be licensed in Nevada.
The rule treats entry-level, RN to BSN and graduate schools alike. The Board also keeps a roster of out-of-state schools with clinical-only approval; the September 1, 2026 edition shows prelicensure ADN and BSN programs exclusively. Whether Troy has applied, or plans to, is a question for Troy.
A Nevada license, with no compact route
Compact licenses stop at the Nevada border: Nevada remains a non-compact state, and NCSBN lists no pending legislation there. One Board practice decision is blunt about scope, holding that caring for a patient who is physically in Nevada takes a Nevada license, and it counts clinical education involving patients among those activities.
Troy's rule points the same direction. A Nevada preceptor request sits unprocessed until Troy has proof of your unencumbered Nevada RN license, current for the entire semester, so start that application as soon as Nevada becomes a serious option. Troy's side is on the license rule page.
How Nevada expects precepted clinicals to run
Nevada's Board spelled out its expectations for precepted clinicals in a 2005 practice decision. The school's faculty direct each clinical experience and answer by telephone when needed. Preceptors work on site with the student, supervising a maximum of two learners at once. Orientation for preceptors, plus objectives in writing, is the program's job.
Much of that already mirrors Troy's process: you give your preceptor the course objectives, you submit a clinical schedule form, and Troy faculty can check in without notice by phone, video or in person, a practice covered on schedule and site visits.
Las Vegas, Reno and Carson City
Southern Nevada is where the people are: the Las Vegas area holds roughly four times Reno's population, and Carson City is smaller still. In the south, the landmark systems are UMC, the academic medical center; the Valley Health System, run by a Universal Health Services subsidiary; HCA's Sunrise Health System; and Dignity Health's Henderson and Las Vegas hospitals. Renown Health is the northern anchor. All of them are cited from their own websites as reference points only; none is presented as a Troy clinical site.
On AANP's map Nevada is full practice. The catch is Schedule II prescribing, which waits until an NP has logged 2,000 hours or two years, unless a protocol approved by a physician covers it.

Can I do Troy University FNP clinicals in Nevada?
Not yet determined is Nevada's status in Troy's online disclosure, stamped 12/15/2020 and shared by Troy's three online nursing programs. On top of that, Nevada bars online programs from teaching clinicals inside its borders without its Board's approval. Troy's Coordinator of State Authorizations can say whether such approval exists; wait for that answer before recruiting, and keep the Clinical Placements Specialist posted.
Does a multistate license from a compact state let me train in Nevada?
No. Compact privileges do not reach Nevada, and the Board treats clinical education with Nevada patients as practice requiring a Nevada license. Troy separately insists on an unencumbered license for the clinical state before it processes a preceptor request from outside Alabama, so a Nevada RN license is the only path.
Could a Reno student use a site in California instead?
Troy's 2020 table marks California Yes without a note, and Troy's authorization page explains that, as a public institution from another state, Troy does not need California Bureau approval. You would still need an RN license Troy accepts for California and course faculty sign-off on preceptor and site. See the California guide.
What does Nevada expect of my preceptor?
Under the Board's 2005 practice decision, your preceptor works on site with you and never has more than two students at once. Troy faculty direct the experience and must be reachable by phone, and the preceptor receives an orientation and written objectives. Troy's own FNP criteria apply on top of all that.
