What Troy has on record for Missouri
One answer on that disclosure serves Troy's three online nursing programs, and it concerns clinical availability only, not Missouri licensure. Six years on, the Missouri row still reads the same, so get a current word from Troy's Coordinator of State Authorizations, shared with the Clinical Placements Specialist, before any Missouri outreach.

Restricted practice: a physician in every NP's picture
Missouri is one of AANP's restricted practice states. Collaboration with a physician is not a phase a Missouri NP completes; it lasts the whole career, and it brings ratio limits, physician chart review and controlled-substance restrictions with it.
For a Troy FNP search, that has two effects. An NP's willingness to precept can hinge on the collaborating physician and the practice's policies, so ask early. And physicians are already inside every Missouri NP practice; Troy accepts them, along with physician assistants and nurse midwives, as FNP preceptors next to experienced NPs, as the FNP preceptor requirements page explains.
Missouri's rules and programs based elsewhere
Title 20, division 2200, chapter 2 of Missouri's regulations covers nursing programs, but only those the Missouri board approves. Nothing the Board publishes tells a school in another state to register, apply or notify it before one of that school's students trains in Missouri. The Nurse Practice Act does exempt supervised practice by students of approved schools, yet it leaves open how a school approved by another state reads against that wording.
Silence is not permission, and it is not Troy's answer either. The Coordinator of State Authorizations is the one who can say whether Troy treats Missouri as open.
Your license in a compact state
The compact entered Missouri law in 2017, and NCSBN counts Missouri as implemented from January 2018, so most Missouri residents carry a multistate RN license. Troy's own requirement is an unencumbered RN license valid in the clinical state for every day of the semester, with no reference to compact privileges, so ask your faculty advisor to confirm that the Missouri multistate card will do. Missouri has not adopted the APRN Compact, so NP licensure after graduation goes through the Missouri board directly.
St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia
Missouri's population is split between two large border metros and two smaller central ones. BJC HealthCare, SSM Health and Mercy are based in the St. Louis region, CoxHealth serves Springfield, and MU Health Care is in Columbia. These names come from the systems' own websites and help you map a region, nothing more; none is described here as open to Troy students.
Crossing a river changes the rules. Metro east St. Louis is in Illinois, a non-compact state that also reads Not yet determined on Troy's table, and the Kansas side of Kansas City belongs to Kansas, likewise Not yet determined. A site across either line needs licensure Troy accepts for that state.
A preceptor tax credit that skips NPs
Missouri does reward some preceptors through the income tax. RSMo 135.690 gives a credit to physicians and PAs holding Missouri licenses when they teach Missouri medical or PA students and receive no direct pay for it. The statute leaves out NPs, APRNs and nursing students entirely, so it plays no role when a Missouri NP considers a Troy student.

Can Troy University online nursing students do clinicals in Missouri?
Missouri's line on Troy's 2020 disclosure reads Not yet determined, with 12/15/2020 as its last update, and it applies to RN to BSN, MSN and DNP students alike. That leaves the question unanswered on Troy's side rather than settled either way. Troy's state authorization coordinator can give today's position; keep the placements office informed as well.
Does Missouri's collaborative practice rule affect who can precept me?
It shapes the practice more than Troy's criteria. Every Missouri NP works with a collaborating physician, so the clinic's student policy matters. Troy's FNP list covers graduate-prepared NPs who have practiced a year or longer, plus physicians, PAs and nurse midwives, and your course faculty approve each person you propose.
Does Missouri pay preceptors who take nurse practitioner students?
Missouri's preceptor tax credit is limited to physicians and PAs who teach Missouri medical and PA students without compensation. NPs, APRNs and nursing students sit outside the statute, so a Missouri NP who takes on a Troy student receives nothing from that program.
I live in Kansas City, Missouri. Can I use a clinic in Kansas?
Troy's table gives Kansas the same Not yet determined label, so the same check with Troy comes first. Kansas issues compact licenses, but Troy's wording asks for a license in the clinical state and never mentions compact privileges, so your faculty advisor should confirm that your license qualifies before you recruit across State Line Road.
