Troy University's online nursing disclosure, the 2020 table of states where Troy's online programs can hold clinical experiences, puts Florida down as a Yes, and Troy lists a separate Florida authorization. Florida's row in Troy's disclosure reads Yes, carries no extra note and was last updated 12/15/2020. One answer serves Troy's online RN to BSN, MSN and DNP alike, and it is not a licensure ruling. Before recruiting in Florida, ask the Clinical Placements Specialist whether that Yes still holds for your track, and put enrollment questions to the Coordinator of State Authorizations.

Who can precept you in Florida
AANP puts Florida in its restricted group: certain Florida NPs keep a lifelong physician protocol, with some exemptions. When the NP you approach works under such a protocol, the physician on it is a second candidate, since Troy's FNP courses accept MDs, DOs, PAs and nurse midwives, not only NPs past their first year of NP work.
Troy's setting limits apply in Florida exactly as at home. Hours in your own workplace do not count, a preceptor or site may appear at most twice in the program, and FNP hospital hours wait for NSG 6680, which sends the early FNP courses to Florida clinics and offices. HINL practicums may use any fitting setting; the work-setting and reuse rules cover each limit.
Florida's rules for out-of-state programs
Florida's statute on approving nursing programs, Fla. Stat. 464.019, targets institutions planning prelicensure education inside Florida, and the Board of Nursing describes its approval role in those same prelicensure terms. The statute sets no approval filing or Board notice for graduate and RN to BSN programs from other states ahead of clinical placements.
Two gates remain: your license, covered below, and Troy's process. Faculty sign off on the preceptor and setting, then the School of Nursing sends out agreements for the preceptor and the agency to sign, which runs longer when a Florida agency has no formal contract with Troy; see agency agreements.
Where Florida NP students look
Florida's four largest metros are Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa Bay and greater Miami, which alone counted about 6.4 million residents in 2025. Big names include BayCare, UF Health, HCA Florida Healthcare, AdventHealth and Baptist Health South Florida; check a system's student process before approaching its clinicians.
Florida also runs TEACH (Training, Education, and Clinicals in Health) under Fla. Stat. 409.91256, administered by AHCA. When funded, it reimburses FQHCs, rural clinics, community mental health centers and similar sites for APRN and nursing student hours taught by Florida-licensed preceptors. Only accredited programs based inside Florida qualify, so Troy hours sit outside it; the statute sunsets on July 1, 2034.
Licensing for Florida clinical hours
Troy wants an unencumbered RN license good in Florida for every day of the semester. With Florida in the Compact since January 19, 2018, a Florida-issued RN license qualifies, as does any member state's multistate license, Alabama's included. The license rule for clinicals quotes Troy's wording.
Florida has not signed the APRN Compact, and that compact needs seven states before it runs; five have joined. APRN licensure there after graduation follows the Board of Nursing's own rules.

Questions Troy students ask
Can I use my Alabama multistate license for Troy clinicals in Florida?
Yes. A multistate license from Alabama works in Florida, as both states are Compact members. Troy still wants the license to cover your clinical state for the full term, so show your faculty advisor the multistate status before any Florida preceptor request goes in.
Does Florida's TEACH funding cover a Troy rotation?
TEACH reimburses facilities rather than students, and only for students enrolled in accredited programs based in Florida. Troy's programs are based in Alabama, so a Florida site hosting a Troy student would draw no TEACH reimbursement for those hours. The program also depends on yearly state appropriation.
Is Troy known to Florida clinical agencies?
Troy's MSN Student Orientation Manual says the graduate program has good relationships with clinical agencies in Alabama, Georgia, Florida and many other states. Troy publishes no list of those agencies, and every new site still goes through faculty approval and signed preceptor and agency agreements, so plan a Florida search as if the site is new to Troy.
Can I do Troy clinicals at a Florida hospital?
That depends on your track. FNP students log no hospital hours until the NSG 6680 FNP Internship, so earlier FNP courses happen in clinics and practices, while HINL students may use any setting, hospitals included. Either way the hospital's own student process applies, and Troy faculty must approve the preceptor and the setting.
