Practicum courses by semester
The traditional ASN is 70 semester hours. On Troy's 2025-26 degree map, two general-studies semesters come first, followed by four nursing semesters with practicum courses in each.

Troy's ASN page calls this a five-semester program, while the degree map shows six semesters, two of general studies and four of nursing. Your advisor's plan settles which applies to you. Credits are published for each practicum; clinical hours come from course faculty and the syllabus. The final semester's NSG 2281 carries six credits on its own, the biggest single practicum in the program.
Clinical sites, in Troy's words
The 2026-27 Undergraduate Catalog places the ASN's clinical facilities within about 50 miles of Montgomery. Troy's ASN page and School of Nursing page name three places for ASN clinical experiences: Baptist Medical Center South, Jackson Hospital and Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama.
On campus, nursing labs are in Bartlett Hall and in the School of Nursing building on the Montgomery Campus. Rotation schedules, facility rules and the details of each practicum come from your course faculty, the ASN Coordinator and the ASN Assistant Coordinator.
A 50-mile radius around Montgomery covers a lot of road, so reliable transportation matters from the first nursing semester. Clinical requirements go through ViewPoint Screening, and each item needs to stay current from the start of the semester to its end.
Day, evening and the LPN to RN Bridge
The traditional ASN comes in day and evening options, and Troy does not allow students to switch options once admitted. Choose the schedule you can hold for every nursing semester, practicum days included.
The LPN to RN Bridge Pathway is 71 semester hours with a fall 2026 start, developed with Baptist Health. It requires an unencumbered Alabama or multistate LPN license and uses the same application deadlines as the ASN. Its course list includes NSG 1135 Health Assessment Practicum; the School of Nursing has the full plan of study.
Both pathways list application deadlines of May 30 for fall and October 30 for spring on the 2026-27 degree planners, with a minimum 2.75 GPA. The Alabama Board of Nursing approves the ASN, and ACEN accredits it at the Montgomery Campus; our accreditation page explains both.
Licensure and working in another state
Finishing the ASN makes you eligible to take the NCLEX-RN. Troy's 2025 disclosure for its on-campus nursing programs finds that both the ASN and BSN satisfy RN educational requirements across all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and American Samoa, with delivery listed as the Troy main campus for every row.
The disclosure speaks only to education; licensing steps, background checks and fees differ by state board, so read the requirements of the board where you plan to work.

From ASN to BSN at Troy
Troy's online RN to BSN, which Troy calls RN Mobility, is built for nurses with an associate degree. While you are still enrolled, Concurrent Enrollment lets an approved ADN student take five RN to BSN courses early, NSG 3309 with its practicum NSG 3310, then NSG 3319, NSG 3370 and NSG 3380, provided the ASN record stays in good standing. Finishing Professional Nursing and Informatics in Nursing that way leaves fewer courses to fit around the two senior preceptorships once you are working as an RN.
The RN to BSN is where preceptors come into the picture. Its manual makes finding and approaching a qualified preceptor your job for each practicum, in a clinical setting Troy approves. Three practicums, NSG 3310, NSG 4411 and NSG 4431, hold 120 clinical hours, run in nine-week terms, and call for an unencumbered RN license valid in each practicum's state. If a master's is your long-term goal, the BSN comes first: Troy's program list shows no RN to MSN pathway, so ASN graduates move through the RN to BSN before the online MSN or the post-BSN DNP.

Both figures appear in Troy's own sources. General-studies credit you bring in can change your count, so your advisor's plan is the one to follow.

Can Troy ASN students start the RN to BSN before graduating?
Yes, through Concurrent Enrollment, which Troy offers to students in an approved ADN program. You can take Professional Nursing (NSG 3370), Informatics in Nursing (NSG 3319), Health Assessment (NSG 3309) with its practicum (NSG 3310), and Pathophysiology (NSG 3380) while finishing the ASN in good standing. Does Troy's ASN have an evening option?
Yes. The traditional ASN on the Montgomery Campus is offered with day and evening options, and students may not switch between them once admitted. Because the choice holds for the whole program, ask the ASN Coordinator how practicum scheduling works on the evening option before you commit, especially if you work days.
