Louisiana clinicals for Troy University students: confirm the approval first
Troy University's 2020 table does say Yes for Louisiana, but the fine print in the same row limits Troy's approval to offer graduate clinical experiences there to October 12, 2022. That day came and went without a newer row, so a Louisiana resident's first move is a question to Troy, not a call to a preceptor.

The row has never been revised, so it neither records a renewal nor marks a lapse. Two Troy roles can close that gap: the Clinical Placements Specialist, on whether Troy may place you in Louisiana this semester, and the Coordinator of State Authorizations, on where Troy's Louisiana approval stands. Why the date matters: Louisiana's approval rule
Louisiana does not let an out-of-state school simply show up. Under LAC 46:XLVII.3539, a nursing program administered from another state, graduate or undergraduate, needs the Louisiana State Board of Nursing to approve it before a single course or clinical experience happens in Louisiana.
Getting there takes paperwork and time. Six months or more before the first offering, the program's request letter goes in, naming the agencies and units it hopes to use and enclosing a stack of documents: course syllabi and the curriculum, the catalog, faculty qualification forms, a survey form for each clinical facility, and exam pass data for licensure and certification. The school must bring three credentials with it: home-state approval, regional accreditation and national nursing accreditation of a kind the Board accepts. Approval runs for up to three years; a petition renews it.
After approval come ongoing duties. Graduate placements trigger a Board spreadsheet on clinical experiences, filed no later than two weeks after each experience begins; faculty speak with every preceptor and student at least weekly, and visit each site at least once a semester or quarter. Every one of those steps is Troy's to carry.
Practice and preceptors in Louisiana
Reduced practice is AANP's rating for Louisiana, because Louisiana NPs need a physician collaborator, under an agreement the state regulates, for at least one element of what they do. Troy's FNP courses accept physicians as preceptors, alongside NPs, nurse midwives and physician assistants; the details are on Troy's FNP preceptor rules.

Your Louisiana license
NCSBN lists Louisiana's compact implementation as July 1, 2019, so for Louisiana hours Troy's license rule can be met with either a Louisiana license or the multistate license of your compact home state, as your faculty advisor confirms. No APRN Compact law exists in Louisiana yet. If the answer on Louisiana comes back no, Mississippi and Texas read Yes on Troy's 2020 table, though Troy's license rule would then follow the site into that state.

Questions Troy students ask
Is Troy University still approved for clinicals in Louisiana?
Troy's own table cannot settle it. The Louisiana row says Yes, yet its note ends Troy's approval for graduate clinical experiences on October 12, 2022, and the table has not changed since 2020. Only Troy can give the current answer, through the Clinical Placements Specialist or the Coordinator of State Authorizations.
May I line up a Louisiana preceptor while I wait to hear from Troy?
Talking with possible preceptors is fine, but hold off on dates. Troy acts on an out-of-state preceptor request only once your license for that state is on file, and Louisiana wants out-of-state programs approved before they offer clinical experiences there. Confirm the approval, then commit to a schedule.
Do Louisiana NPs have to work with a physician?
In part. A Louisiana NP works with a physician under a state-regulated collaborative agreement for some portion of their practice, which is why AANP calls the state reduced practice. For your Troy preceptorship what matters is Troy's standard: graduate preparation and, for NPs, one year or more in NP practice, with faculty approval.
Does the October 2022 date touch Troy's RN to BSN in Louisiana?
Troy's note mentions graduate clinical experiences only, so it says nothing directly about the RN to BSN. Louisiana's approval rule, though, covers undergraduate programs from other states as well, so an RN to BSN student living there should ask Troy the same question before choosing a preceptorship location.
