What Wyoming asks of a post-licensure program

Wyoming's nursing board treats schools from other states differently depending on whether their students are licensed yet. Troy's online students are, and for that group (the Board names RN to BSN, MSN, DNP and APRN study) its Chapter 6 rules replace an approval with three duties:

Practice and licensing in Wyoming

In AANP's map, Wyoming is full practice. The legislature adopted the APRN Compact as part of Title 33 of the state statutes, making Wyoming one of five adopters by 2026, but the compact sits idle until a seventh state signs. Wyoming nurses have carried multistate RN licenses since January 2018.

Troy's criteria for FNP preceptors travel with you to Wyoming unchanged: a nurse practitioner with a year of practice, an MD or DO, a PA or a nurse midwife (who can precept). What changes in Wyoming is geography.

Small cities and long drives

Wyoming has two metro areas, Cheyenne at roughly 103,000 people in 2025 and Casper at about 81,000, plus smaller centers such as Gillette. In Cheyenne the big name is Cheyenne Regional; Casper has Banner Health's hospital; Gillette has Campbell County Health; Laramie has Ivinson Memorial; Sheridan has its own memorial hospital. None reserves places for Troy students.

Must Wyoming's board approve my Troy MSN clinicals?

No approval applies to licensed students' programs; the Board expects notice instead. Troy, as the school, would send the Board written word before you train in Wyoming and would have the facility contract signed before your first clinical day.

Could I cross into Colorado or South Dakota for clinicals?

Both read Yes in Troy's 2020 table. Colorado's row adds that students in clinical practicums need workers' compensation coverage, and South Dakota's notes that one faculty member licensed there oversees students. You would still need licensure valid in that state and Troy's current confirmation.

Does Wyoming's APRN Compact matter for Troy students now?
