Who we are
Troy Preceptor is an independent service that recruits preceptors for Troy nursing students. We exist because of one rule in Troy's 2026-27 orientation manuals: students contact and recruit their own preceptors, and faculty approve them. For an online student balancing a nursing job, family and coursework, that search is often the hardest part of the program. We take it on.
Everything we do is shaped around Troy's own process rather than a generic one. We work from Troy's orientation manuals, program pages, catalog and academic calendar, course by course, and we match students with that detail in mind: the right clinician type for the course, the right setting, the right paperwork and the right timing.
Why a Troy-specific service
Troy's rules are precise, and they change from course to course. An FNP preceptor must be an NP licensed where they practice with a year of NP experience, or a physician, midwife or PA. NSG 6666 needs two preceptors. HINL, Nursing Education and Accelerated MSN courses each have their own lists. No student may train in their own work area or use a preceptor or site more than twice, and hospital time for FNP students waits until NSG 6680.
Add the typed Preceptor Information Form, the biosketch and license copy, deadlines that differ between the MSN and DNP manuals, and a license rule for any clinicals outside Alabama, and a general list of preceptors becomes only a starting point. We build every match to clear those rules before your faculty advisor sees it.
What we do for students
Our service covers the whole placement, not only the first phone call:
- Find clinicians close to home who satisfy Troy's list for the exact NSG course you are taking
- Keep your employer's settings off the list, along with any preceptor or site Troy's two-use cap has closed
- Confirm the setting fits the course, from primary care offices to informatics and leadership settings
- Collect each detail the information form and biosketch call for, plus the preceptor's license copy
- Work back from your form's due date, and warn you at the start when an agency may still need a formal contract
- Remain reachable all semester and begin recruiting a substitute the day a preceptor withdraws

Who we work with
The bulk of the Troy students we place study online: the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner and Healthcare Informatics and Nursing Leadership tracks, the post-master's certificates in FNP, HINL and Nursing Education, and the DNP tracks. We also help RN to BSN students with their three preceptorships and Accelerated MSN students in Dothan with the preceptor courses NSG 5549 and NSG 6698.
Many live in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Others live wherever Troy can offer clinicals, and for them we start with the state rules: an RN license in the clinical state and Troy's own clinicals by state table. How we work
Troy's own documents come first. When we describe a Troy rule, it comes from Troy's 2026-27 orientation manuals, its program pages, its catalog or its academic calendar. Where two Troy sources disagree, as the MSN and DNP manuals do on form deadlines, we show you both and send you to your faculty advisor for the answer that applies to you.
Approval stays with Troy. Faculty decide on each preceptor and setting and clear each student, while the School of Nursing issues the agreements; what we contribute is a packet that arrives complete and matched to the course. Each student has one placement advisor who tracks their program, course and deadline, and every quote explains what shapes the price before you commit.

Troy Preceptor is an independent placement service. Troy faculty rule on each preceptor and setting and clear every student, and agency agreements are held by the School of Nursing. Our role comes before those steps: recruiting a preceptor suited to your NSG course and assembling a complete packet for your faculty advisor.
Which Troy programs do you help?
Mainly the online MSN tracks (FNP and HINL), the post-master's certificates, the DNP tracks and the RN to BSN, all programs where Troy's manuals ask students to contact their preceptors. We also help Accelerated MSN students in Dothan with the preceptor courses NSG 5549 and NSG 6698.

Do clinicians who want to precept contact you too?
Yes. Clinicians who would take a Troy student pick the preceptor entry in the program list on any of our forms. From there we describe the course the student needs, what Troy asks of a preceptor and the paperwork involved, and we collect the biosketch details and license copy in one pass.
Who handles my placement day to day?
One placement advisor follows your request from first contact to your first clinical shift and remains reachable through the semester if a preceptor withdraws. For short questions, the chat button on every page goes to the placement desk, which passes anything about your search to that advisor.
